Our Success Stories

Today the Social Action Group is a very successful social enterprise. It strives for excellence in all of it's endeavours. Listed below are some of our successes to date:

 1975 - Present Over quarter of a million Euro raised for projects in the Third World. The S.A.G. responds to natural disasters including the Tsunami - raising €13,000 for emergency aid. It also provides over €4,000 each year to help local Missionaries in badly needed community development all over Africa, Asia and South America.
1983 Construction of Teach Iosagain, our headquarters.
1984 Creation of a laundry built out of what was originally an old cow shed. The laundry still serves the elderly people of the area.
1990 Creation of a Day Care Centre and a new extension to Teach Iosagain.
 1993  Construction of 7 sheltered houses and a larger Day Care Centre.
 1997  Re-development of Teach Iosagain as a modern Youth Creativity Centre, housing a playgroup, canteen, meeting room, games room and state of the art disco hall.
 2000  In a project to mark the millennium, we constructed 20 more sheltered houses and a new larger Day Care Centre to meet the growing demand. The old centre was rented to the HSE to provide a centre for people with mental health problems.

 1989  Trustee Savings Bank - Inaugural award for ''Best Voluntary Group'' in Kerry
 1991  Mace National Environmental Awards - 2nd place in Ireland for ''A Plan To Develop Rathmore Village'' - 1991
 1992  1st place in ''Eacht Sliabh Luachra'' awards for community work - 1992
 1994  Bank of Ireland / Farmer's Journal National Award - 1st place in Munster, "Runner Up" in All-Ireland for community development
 1995  Cork 103FM / Bank of Ireland Voluntary Awards in the Cork/Kerry area for community work

''1st Place in Ireland'' Youth Section of AIB Better Ireland Awards - Cheque for £25,000 for  success in encouraging young people to become involved in community development

  2004 1st place in the Inaugural Kerry Community Awards for ''Best Community Group in Kerry''

1st place in Co-Operation Ireland National Awards for ''The inspiring & Creative Nature of the S.A.G. community work''

 2013 1st place in the IRD Duhallow sponsored ''Community Social Enterprise Section''
