Our New Trishaw
The Social Action Group Rathmore CLG would like to acknowledge receipt of a grant of €6,500 from Kerry County Council and the Community Enhancement Fund 2019 for the purchase of a Trishaw.
One of the Social Action Group’s key objectives is the care of our older people. The Social Action Group has developed links with the Cycling without Age Movement which was started in Copenhagen by Ole Kassow in 2012. Ole wanted to help the elderly get back on their bicycles, but he had to find a solution to their limited mobility. The answer was a trishaw and he started offering free bike rides to the local nursing home residents. This helped older people remain an active part of society and their local community.
Cycling without Age requires adult volunteers to pilot the trishaw which can carry two adults. While out on their bike ride they will meet other people have a chat, stop for a tea or coffee and experience nature.
The Social Action Group is in an ideal position to make maximum use of the Trishaw for people who attend the Day Centre or residents in our Bru na Sinsear.
The Trishaw Trio bike will a fantastic asset for our very progressive programme and will be a very welcome activity for all our clients and especially those with mobility issues.
We look forward to lots of sunny days and memorable trips out.
